AI is moving closer to the transaction—and the control layer is becoming the product

Oracle’s latest results make the scale of enterprise artificial-intelligence spending difficult to ignore: a US$664 billion revenue backlog and more than US$30 billion in new AI cloud contracts. But infrastructure demand does not settle the application-layer contest.

ERP vendors still control the governed environment where a recommendation becomes an approval, a journal, a payment or an inventory movement. Their advantage is not simply access to a better model. It is the ability to act inside permissions, workflows and audit trails.
